Tell Premier Ford you support buying Quebec Power
Quebec has offered to supply Ontario with clean renewable energy at a cost of just 5 cents per kilowatt hour for the next 20 years. That is less than half of Ontario Power Generation’s projected price for power from rebuilt reactors at the Darlington Nuclear Station: 13.7 cents per kWh. And with inevitable cost overruns, it will climb even higher.
Meanwhile, Quebec is guaranteeing power year-round at an incredibly attractive price. In January 2018, Quebec Hydro signed a deal to supply Massachusetts with enough power to serve one million homes at a price of 3 to 5.3 cents per kWh. And it repeated that it would be happy to make a similar deal with Ontario. By taking Quebec up on its offer, we could reduce our electricity costs by more than $12 billion over the next 20 years.
